The “seaweed” season has been up and running for about a month now. However, like the land plants, things are behind in the Sea. We had noticed in recent years that the seaweeds were starting to grow earlier and earlier (some even in January!). With the “cold snap” that we had, things are just about starting now.

With the recent increase in postal prices by Royal Mail, we have now decided to include “postage” in our prices listed. The price on the shopping cart is what you pay.
Just chose which postage option – UK, Europe or ROW.
The Postage price included is for standard mail & “Airmail” prices (delivery about 10 days).

“Seaweed could hold the answer to tackling obesity, according to Newcastle University researchers. The team found alginate - a fibre found in sea kelp - reduces the body's fat uptake by more than 75%. That is better than most anti-obesity treatments. Now the fibre is being added to bread in an effort to develop foods that help lose weight. Clinical trials are now intended to find out how effective it would be in a normal diet.”

Aug 2009, Irish Seaweeds were approached by James Wong and the BBC series “Grow Your Own Drugs”. James and his crew were here for a few days, went harvesting with us and made a “seaweed scrub” from Kelp. UTV’s 730 Live show – at the beginning of May 2010, on a sunny day in Portaferry, UTV’s Tina Campbell filmed with Irish Seaweeds Jenny and made Chocolate Carrageen Jelly. The show will be aired on 27th May 2010 and should be available to view on www.u.tv website for 7 days after that date.
